Year 12

Students in Year 12 have the option of two programs, giving them the best opportunity to successfully finish off their schooling in a successful and meaningful way. Students are supported and encouraged to prepare themselves for life beyond school.

Curriculum

Year 12 students have two pathways to choose from that will define how they complete their last two years of secondary schooling: VCE, or VCE — Vocational Major (VM)

VCE

This is the standard VCE program for students. Students who study the VCE have the flexibility to choose subjects based on their interests and their career aspirations. We offer over 40 different VCE subjects for students to choose from, across a range of categories including English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Health and PE, Languages, Arts and Technologies.

Year 12 students will study 5 VCE Units each semester (one of which must be an English subject), and will continue their Religious Education studies. Students will complete Unit 3 and 4 examinations. A satisfactory completion of at least 3 English Units is necessary for a VCE certificate to be awarded, along with at least three other Unit 3 and 4 sequences.

Higher Education studies are available to Year 12 students who have previously accelerated. An application process applies for all students.

A full list of our VCE subjects on offer can be found in the Year 10 – 12 Curriculum information booklet.

VCE — Vocational Major (VM)

The VCE Vocational Major is a new senior secondary certificate being introduced in 2023. The Vocational Major is a structured pathway designed to develop work and employability skills. Year 12 students in 2023 will complete Senior VCAL subjects as VCAL is phased out.

Students enrolled in VM will study:

  • Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Personal Development Skills
  • Work-Related Skills
  • Religious Education

As part of VM, students will also complete a VET subject of their choice, as well as a weekly structured work placement.

A full list of the subjects students can undertake can be found in the 2023 Senior Curriculum Information Handbook.
