Ever wondered what it takes to become the next big entrepreneur or step into the corporate world? If seeing others kickstart their ventures has sparked your interest, it may just be the perfect time to explore business studies.
At St Francis Xavier College, business studies focus on providing students with a solid understanding of the business world, including how businesses are structured and how they operate. Taking a business studies course provides valuable insights for students, helping them understand the many different aspects of successful business and determine if a career in business is the right path for them.
In the Junior Humanities Program, students study economics and business concepts from Year 7. Through this key learning area, students begin to understand the fundamentals of local commerce, economics, and financial literacy. They gain insight into economic thinking and learn the skills needed to think critically about real-world financial decisions.
In Year 8 and Year 9 economics and business continues to be a fundamental key part of the compulsory Humanities program. Year 9 students also have the opportunity to choose a specialised elective focused on ‘Economics and Business.’ This elective provides the chance for interested students to dive more deeply into this learning area.
There are no prerequisites for students interested in studying business related subjects at the senior campus, however the business focused subjects do become more discipline based. In Year 10, another business and economics elective is offered to students who wish to further explore this area before considering one of the four Business and Economics focused VCE courses that are available at St Francis Xavier College.
These are Business Management, Accounting, Economics and Legal Studies. High achieving students may accelerate into VCE Business Management as a Year 10 student. While the other subjects are accessible in Year 11 and 12. Students can learn more about these courses from the relevant study designs from the VCAA.
After completing focused business studies, students will be well-prepared to navigate business environments independently or tackle any university-level courses they choose. The skills and knowledge they acquire will equip them for success in their next level of education.
We recommend that students looking to accelerate their studies should take advantage of the opportunities available. At St Francis Xavier College, we support students in reaching their full potential by providing a range of resources.
