Don donko don!
That is the sound of a Taiko drum, heard shaking the walls each Friday lunchtime at our Berwick Campus. The distinctive reverberations of Taiko drumming that are an amalgamation of music and exercise, along with social and cultural interaction, are produced by pine bachi striking the thick leather skins of our traditional Japanese drums.
Taiko Drumming has been an extra-curricular activity at Berwick now for five years. Senior students take the initiative to teach rhythms and songs to others, which are performed at campus assemblies and other schools. These performances are vibrant attestations to the students’ passion for the activity.
