As we journey through Lent may we hear the voice of Christ in our reflections. We pray that as we reflect on our faith, and how we live our lives, that we may be called ever more closely to God.

Curriculum Review

As the end of Term 1 approaches I would like to acknowledge the effort of the students with their learning this term.

The College fosters a culture which promotes having a growth mindset. Each day we are proud of the efforts of students who are open to learning and stretch themselves to understand new concepts, develop skills and enhance their knowledge.

I would also like to acknowledge the work of the staff. This term we have implemented many outcomes of the College curriculum review including but not limited to the following:

  • Introduction of Spanish and Arabic
  • Year 9 and 10 Inquiry and Project Based Learning
  • VCE English Language
  • VCE Environmental Science
  • Year 10 Foundation VCAL
  • New timetable with extended tuition time for all students
  • Year 7 Music Program
  • Expanded flexibility in the learning program
  • Year 8 and 9 Extension Academies
  • Year 8 and 9 Media Arts
  • Year 8 and 9 Dance
  • New elective based Religious Education program for Year 8 – 11

Year 8 City Experience

Parents of Year 8 students recently attended an information evening regarding the Year 8 City Experience which will be conducted at the end of this year. It will be the first time that the College has run this program. A purposeful program is being prepared which strongly addresses the importance of student safety.

The objectives of the program are:

  • to allow students to get to know the city of Melbourne. This includes landscape, public transport, navigation, culture and experiences.
  • to develop collaboration and communication skills with a specific focus on problem solving and critical thinking
  • to develop confident, independent young adults that are resilient in meeting the challenges of the course in a timely fashion
  • to address the Victorian F-10 Curriculum General Capabilities: Creative and Critical Thinking, Ethical, Intercultural, Personal and Social

Coaching Program

I would like to confirm for parents that the College is constantly working with the teachers on their development. An element of this is the development of a coaching program. Specifically, the establishment of a Coaching Program is aimed to build the capacity of middle leaders in helping their team members enhance student achievement. The intended outcome is that opportunities for dialogue and collaboration are provided to facilitate professional growth.

The ultimate outcome is that student achievement will be increased through enhanced teacher effectiveness and practice.

IT, eLearning and AV Review

The College is about to embark on a review of the IT, eLearning and AV functions of the College. The key questions are, How should the IT, eLearning and AV functions of the College operate in the future so as to best serve student achievement?

Students and parents will be provided with the opportunity to share their views as part of the review.

Blessings for the next fortnight!
