As you are aware the College has this year introduced a number of new subjects as part of implementing the outcomes of our 2017-2018 Curriculum Review. One of the new subjects is Spanish which was introduced to Year 7 this year. Please enjoy the following piece from Eshara Gajadeera Arachchige who shares her experience of studying Spanish this year.
In Semester 1, I started to learn Spanish. This is a European language which is very fascinating to study.
One of the assessments I completed was a description of a person that students admired. What I enjoyed about this task was that students were able to include a video of themselves speaking in Spanish. This challenged us to speak Spanish and showed us what we were capable of.
Learning the Spanish language at school was enhanced by an online program called languagenut.com. This program allowed students to learn and revise different topics, vocabulary items and grammar rules. Our teacher was able to see our data, track our progress and become aware of what we learnt and mastered of this language.
Overall, Spanish is a very interesting language to study as it is rated the second most spoken language in the world, with 460 million native speakers. It is recommended by many and is sure to influence you in learning it.
Thank you
