From next week, students will commence their 2020 studies with a preparatory period of up to 3 weeks. This should help all students able to start the new year already understanding what is expected of them.
They will meet some of their teachers, be introduced to their new subjects and have the chance to get ahead by completing all their early year reading and completing some tasks that will give their teachers some insight into them as learners.
The best senior teacher I ever saw in my subject, English, was successful mainly because she made a real effort to learn how her students learnt. To know what skill areas, they were strong in and where they needed extra support.
She did this in the Commencement Program. It set her class up for success. Even more so because they all gave of their best during it.
I commend these next few weeks to all students especially in Year 9 – 11 this year. Make the most of this time. Do your reading, submit your tasks, show your teachers what they can expect for 2020.
The more they know about your learning habits, knowledge levels and skills, the better they can teach you.
I invite all families to encourage their daughters and sons to fully participate.
They will be the winners in 12 month’s time if they do.
