Today we said farewell to the Class of 2018 at a rousing assembly at Beaconsfield Campus. The four College student leaders led most items and, apart from presenting the traditional captains’ dance, also announced their successors.

I would like to congratulate the following students on their elevation to leadership roles for 2019:

The warm and enthusiastic reception they received from the whole campus gives me great confidence that they will receive the support so necessary for leaders to be successful.

For those of you unaware of the selection process it goes like this:

1. Students nominate for the student vote
2. All students are invited to vote for the most suitable candidates
3. The top five boys and girls are identified
4. These 10 students address a gathering of staff from all three campuses
5. The assembled staff vote (other staff can vote online)
6. The 10 candidates are then interviewed by the current College Captains with the Principal and Head of Campus in attendance.
7. The four then reach a consensus on the best candidates for Captain and Vice Captain roles.
8. The following day all 10 candidates gather for the announcement which is made by the current Captains.
9. The successful candidates contact their parents
10. The four current leaders then announce their successors at Assembly

This is the process we have used for the past three years and it confidently draws upon student judgement and insight. If you look at the leaders that have been chosen in that period, I believe that we can see the undeniable wisdom of trusting student voice and relying upon their love of the College to give us the leaders we need.

Please join me in congratulating the newly elected leaders, their families and the staff who have inspired them to seek to serve this community.
